Some useful tips/advice for when babies arrive...
Ashley's Question:
"What did all of you wish you had when baby arrived, and what is the items you never actually
needed?!? Please send me your responses! Thank you in advance!"
Ed's Answer:
Sleep sacks and onesies are all you need for the first few months, crib tent if you have cats or other animals that will consider sleeping with the new born, if you can breast feed consider getting a co-sleeper crib that sits next to your bed so you can put baby in and out of crib without getting out of bed and you never have to worry about crushing the baby in your bed...
put one of those tinted cfl's bulbs like a red one into your nightside lamp so you dont have to put on full on lights in the middle of the night...if you enjoy doing tons of laundry and wasting water go with cloth diapers, otherwise just suck it up and go with disposable diapers: there is still "some" room in the landfills(besides they need the poop material in there to help aid in biodegrading the other stuff) prepare yourselves for tons of shitty diapers and actually go with a small waste basket in the baby's room to limit quantity or just chuck the diapers out of the window(consider installing one of those construction orange type garbage chutes on the window that leads straight into the outside garbage can ;) the point being it smells so bad that you're going to be putting the thousands of dirty diapers right out into the trash anyway, you arent going to want those piling up in the room...
video monitor if you're gonna be super paranoid(but resist going in there at all costs! only if the baby has its head stuck in between the bars or something! NOTHING in the crib(that's why sleep sacks rule!), best hang out chair is a baby papasan, consider the graco travel system baby carrier/stroller, super convenient with getting baby in and out of car and into the stroller, can just leave them in it, also stand alone high chairs are freakin huge and take up too much kitchen/dining space, consider getting a clip on high chair that clips onto any table, also get a booster chair portable seat that snaps onto regular dining type chairs, make up for all the landfill diapers by buying/requesting only wooden toys...
dont use a pacifier, they dont need it and its one less bad habit you'll have to break... have a baby shower and request gift receipts, take 90% of the crap back and buy a truck load of diapers instead. and if i may, the best advice anyone could ever give you: make up a schedule and stick to it ALWAYS, babies, toddlers, kids LOVE routine, always feed them at the same time, bath them at the same time, read to them at the same time, put them to bed at the same time everyday, always and forever and you're GOLDEN. GOOD LUCK!!!

Captured: The Ruins of Detroit
"Up and down Detroit’s streets, buildings stand abandoned and in ruin. French photographers Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre set out to document the decline of an American city. Their book “The Ruins of Detroit“, a document of decaying buildings frozen in time, was published in December 2010.
From the photographers’ website:
Ruins are the visible symbols and landmarks of our societies and their changes, small pieces of history in suspension.
The state of ruin is essentially a temporary situation that happens at some point, the volatile result of change of era and the fall of empires. This fragility, the time elapsed but even so running fast, lead us to watch them one very last time : being dismayed, or admire, making us wondering about the permanence of things.
Photography appeared to us as a modest way to keep a little bit of this ephemeral state."
Some of the Photos from the book "The Ruins of Detroit" published in 2010:
Piano, Saint Albertus School, Detroit
United Artists Theater, Detroit
Bagley Clifford National Bank, Detroit
Melted Clock, Cass Techical High School, Detriot

Bunny has a baby sister!
We sewed/stuffed Bunny's baby sister today!
I haven't sewed a stuffed animal since hmmm, 5th grade Home Ec class!?
Amazingly enough I didn't forget how to do it!
It was a very cool Build-a-Bear take home kit we got at Michael's Crafts.
